Hey pals, I’m Jesse, owner and operator of illume room! I can’t wait to meet you all in person, but for now here’s a little bit about me:
I was born and raised in Ennismore, a little town North East of Toronto and I still live here today with my family. I love the flexibility of being able to join the hustle and bustle and explore the business opportunities of the city and then being able to come home to the calm and open space of the country. I love the work life balance the separation provides.
Growing up I was a typical tomboy. I would barely let my mom brush my hair and I wore a lot of boys' board shorts and tie-dyed t-shirts. There were definitely some surprised looks when I announced my intentions to make the move to the beauty industry, but that just made me want to prove myself even more.
I previously worked in the service industry since I was 16 years old at my family's restaurant, and when I tell you it taught me SO MUCH. I am a firm believer everyone should work in customer service at least once in their lives, it teaches invaluable skills such as time management, problem solving and customer service.
During the pandemic while the restaurant industry took a hit, I decided I wanted to learn a new skill, so I booked an online makeup course with Julia Dantas. I hope everyone gets to experience finding their passion like I did. It was LOVE. I immediately knew this was something I wanted to pursue. It started as a creative outlet to pass the time, then I took another course with Julia, I built my kit, then turned into a side hustle, and in November 2022, I finished my 42nd wedding of the year and I decided it was time to take the leap to full time entrepreneurship. I marked the end of my career in food and beverage and I treated myself to a solo trip to the East Coast to learn one on one from a long time idol of mine in the industry, Selena Marchand!
And here we are, welcome to Illume Room's next chapter! We plan to be your one stop shop for all things beauty and makeup and our mission is to make you feel beautiful, confident and badass.
I will never stop learning, and I hope to be able to make you ALL feel your absolute best one day.
